For this week’s mix, we have Philou Louzolo returning to the series. Philou is a DJ and producer hailing from The Netherlands with roots in Nigeria, who has recently returned after some time off from touring and has started up his own imprint, Wokoundou. As always, we asked Philou to tell us about the mix and what he’s been up to recently…

This fall I released the very first EP on my own label Wokoundou. This EP was created during my half year break from touring in 2018 and it feels good to finally release it exactly one year later.

This year has been very symbolic, since my label’s first release was also round the same time my daughter was born.

Currently I am making making a lot of new music to continue with the upbringing of my label. I still produce most of my music at home with my basic set up: mac book + Akai LPK 25.

The mix was recorded in my living room, with CDJ’s + DJM.

This mix includes some released and unreleased Wokoundou music, some music from both my friends and legends such as Jeff Mills and Robert Hood and some Afro House favorites, including Enoo Napa and DJ LAG (QGOM).

Up next…

I have a few of bookings to go until the closing of this year but I will mainly prepare myself for 2020. Running a label takes a lot of time, I clearly underestimated that!

There is a lot of music ready to be released on Wokoundou, putting the EP’s together will be a challenge. I want to reach out to a diverse audience with Wokoundou; from Techno to Afro House and everything that touches me in between.

Wokoundou stands for a diverse, futuristic ‘black’ sound, I am inspired by old Detroit Techno legends but also by modern day Afro sounds from South Africa and West Africa, a mix between those genres form the roots of my sound. When it comes to my artistic expressions – I like order and structure. Combining different styles in a set is easier for me than blending them into an EP! But I look forward to take on this challenge.

Up next for the 131st instalment of the FMB mix is Demuja, Austrian house music whizz. 2019 has been a busy year for him, seeing the release of two EPs and a single. As the breakdancer-turned-producer drops in to do this mix, we catch up with him to see what he’s been up to recently…

A lot of touring at the moment J. I’m happy I’m able to play all over the world and show people my passion, get together with different people and enjoy good parties (and gooddd food)

The mix was recorded in my small little homestudio, digital and vinyl. As I love to play colourful sets, with different genres, I also tried to bring this into the mix. From Classic House, Acid to Breaks, also some unreleased shizzl in it!

Up next…

I just finished a new album, which might take a lot of time. But of course, every day when I ‘m not touring I’m in the studio, trying to cook some new tracks ;)
Seems like I’m also back touring the US, Australia and Asia early next year, and of course a lot of Europe-gigs coming up! Exiting times ahead!

As Long Island Sound, Rob and Tim have been going from strength to strength in the club circuit, both in their own productions and DJ sets. We caught up with the Berlin-based duo for a quick chat about the mix & what they’ve been up to recently…

We were back in Ireland for a couple of shows in Limerick and Dublin, followed by the last festival of the summer, Fuinneamh, which is a really sick intimate festival run by a group of friends of ours. More recently we supported Baltra’s liveshow in Berlin – that was great and pretty inspiring to see how he works up close. Apart from that we’ve been organizing the most recent Signs of Space record, which came out on October 11th (and should be available everywhere by now, we hope!)

This mix was recorded in our good friend Mr. Reed’s place. He’s got Technics, CDJs and a Pioneer 900 mixer, and he’s nice enough to let us come over from time to time when we need to record a mix. Thanks Mr. Reed!

The mix contains a few bangers by some friends (shouts to George Earnest + R.Kitt) along with some Signs of Space stuff, along with some of our unreleased tunes. We wanted to cover a decent bit of electronic territory so it’s got some breaks, italo bits, classic house biz, etc.

Up next…

Our next show will be at the last ever Bernard Shaw weekender in Dublin on October 26th. Really sad to see such an important cultural institution go, but it’s a small consolation to get to play one last time with all our best buds. On November 6th we’re at Watergate with Thabo Getsome and Borrowed Identity. We’re also preparing to move back to Dublin in December (…if anyone’s got a studio space hook-up then please let us know – THANK YOU!)

This week we invited Cameo Blush aka John Dunk for episode 129 of our mixtape series – he is the London-based producer who very recently released his first outing as a producer on Nick Höppner’s Touch From A Distance. As usual, we asked a bit about the mix and what he’s been up to lately…

I released my debut EP via Touch From A Distance, alongside a live set at Field Maneuvers as part of Nick Höppner’s takeover. I made a lot of new music to for the live show so i’m really looking forward to releasing some new stuff soon.

I gradually made a pool of tracks over a few weeks- if i heard anything that i was into or fit in with the idea i had for the mix i saved it or wrote it down, then spent a day in the studio putting them together.

I wanted the mix to open up gradually from a quite dark beginning to a more expansive end. I also really like the sound of things sort of breaking apart and coming back together in my music so i tried to replicate this on a larger scale for the mix.

Up next…

More live shows are in the pipeline and i’m also super excited to get back in the studio and finishing off my next release!

For this weeks episode of our mixtape series, we invited up and coming DJ/producer, Manami. Through her own Better Days party and monthly radio shows on Noods and 1020 she’s built up a loyal following in her hometown of Bristol. Now a resident at Mick’s Garage, we’re looking forward to seeing what else she’s got up her sleeves…

I’ve just finished playing the last festival of the summer last weekend at Port Eliot, after many weekends spent dancing and playing in fields over the past 3 months.

It was recorded on my CDJ set up nestled in the corner of my bedroom.

I recorded the mix as a promo mix for the Hammer Hits Tour. I’m joining Hammer on the Liverpool leg with Brame & Hamo, which I’m really looking forward to (tickets here). It’s a slow warm up mix that focuses on warm melodic tones, which slowly makes its way towards a more percussive and bass driven sound, and then ending on a couple of high energy EBM oriented tracks.

Up next…

I have some lovely shows coming up, including a date at Lakota Bristol on the 5th October with Move D and Dan Shake and of course playing with Hammer at 24 Kitchen Street in Liverpool on the 17th October.

I’ve also been working on my own music. Hopefully more on that over the next year…

Check out all the Hammer Hits tour dates below (tickets):
