For this week’s episode of our mixtape series we invited fellow Belfast selector, label owner, promoter and producer, Bobby Analog. As per usual, we asked what he’s been up to lately…
Just the usual stuff, being reclusive hiding from sight in my little home studio, recording this mix and creating video previews for my next record from old stock footage I found online. I did the mix on my 1200’s, CDJ’s & Allen & Heath on the 3rd floor of the Analog household (we live in a terrace house). I took my standard process to put the mix together, I spent a week compiling then spent a few days getting the transitions I wanted and recorded it a few times til I had a take I was satisfied with and I drank lots of herbal teas throughout the whole process and took videos of my cat.
Initially I was intent I was going to make quite a deep Detroit house mix but as I got to mixing my brain decided it wanted to dance so I made what I would consider a bit of a classic dance mix. There’s a lot of old American stuff from UR, Nu Groove, Peacefrog, Dance Mania, a few Italian House boyo’s plus a couple of Eighties weapons launched in the mix. As the mix progressed I decided I wanted it to have a somewhat raw aesthetic that’s why some of the mixes are a bit loose, nothing to do with my mixing.

I will be continuing work on new tracks, I’ve spent the last year amassing a nice collection of synths and I recently picked up a Roland R8 so I’ll be spending a lot of time with them. I’ve been working on a lot of stuff recently which has moved away from the sample based stuff that people know me for and I want to try and get that to a place that I am happy with then I will be setting up another label for that side of things, who knows I might even release some other people’s music too, probably not though.
I’m learning to play Piano at the minute so 2019 live Piano set, keep your eyes peeled for that one.
