We are always on the look out for new talent coming through the ranks and are delighted to invite Supreems to submit a mix to our podcast series. As usual we got in touch to find out what hes been up to:

“Since my debut EP on Lobster Theremin I got to play abroad a few times and on some bigger festivals than I’m used to, which was pretty exciting and inspired me a lot. Highlight definitely being Concrete in Paris. Most unreal 3 hours of my career (life?) so far. I went on a holiday to Lisbon after and I spent most of the summer in my studio working on new music and digging the endless depths of Soundcloud.

At home. I used Ableton to glue together some tracks whose bpm seemed to live a life of their own & two turntables and a cdj.

My record collection has been growing pretty fast in the last few months. I usually don’t keep all records and often sell a batch to the next owner. However, I have one shelf that contains records that are very dear to me and will never leave my collection. Most of the mix is a selection from these records.

Every time you open the newspaper these days it makes you feel like the world is going to shit, so when I was putting together this mix I aimed for a feeling that proves us otherwise :) “

“Hammer’s ‘Canna ep’ is definitely one of my favourite releases of the year so far. I’m super chuffed to be part of the Canna Remix ep that is coming out on Loft Records next month. There’s also some new Lobster material in the pipeline and music for other labels that I’m really excited about. It’s been a bit overwhelming at times, the rate at which you receive requests from people who want to work with you, especially when you really like their label. So I decided to focus solely on music for at least a year and see where that takes me, can’t wait.”

A few months back we played at the excellent Modular Festival in Rotterdam.  Philou Louzolo was on warm up, we knew none of the tracks but loved them all and immediately got in touch asking for him to contribute to our podcast series. We can’t wait to see how he develops as an artist and look forward to hear more of his productions. Get to know!

“I’ve been touring and traveling a lot, so I’m actually looking forward to recover and make music again. I started this career three years ago, everything went so fast and this was my first hectic festival season, so it was a bit overwhelming to be honest. I’m looking forward to next year, but I will be more selective about my gigs and stop saying yes to everyone.

At a friend’s place with mostly CDJ’s and a few records and a weird, old two channeled mixer (don’t even remember it’s name).

I prepared a very diverse playlist first, but I started free-styling halfway, this is something that a lot during my sets.

I rarely talk about genres, all music I play has something indescribable in common.”

Up next…

“Trying to get some old productions out (the last track in this mix is one of them.) And create new stuff and also prepare for next year. I will also try to be more active on speaking out against the lack of cultural diversity and cultural appropriation in our industry, whatever the consequences might be for my career, if the scene can’t handle controversial topics, the scene is not for me. I feel blessed to be in a position where I can travel so freely and share special moments with people all over the world, but from my point of view, a lot needs to change in order for me to enjoy my work to the fullest and be able to reach my full potential as an artist.”

“I’m just back from holiday. Been quite busy with gigs and remixes lately so was nice to spend some time with the family.

The mix was recorded in my studio in one take. Using 1210s and CDJs

I didn’t really have a set idea. I’d just returned from the Isle of Eigg where I played at this amazing small festival called the Howlin Fling. I was still on a high from that gig when I did this mix.”

Up next…

“This weekend I have a rare hometown gig (alongside the BICEP boys), then Ibiza next Tuesday to play at Pacha.

Studio wise, I have the next 3 EPs ready and mastered for my DFSANT series and I’m now currently working away on my next album, which will be finished towards the end of the year. I’m also working on another project with Firecracker Recordings and the Scottish Forestry Commission. It’s a follow up to 2015’s Mac-Talla Nan Creag album.”

“Well, I’ve been travelling a lot. Italy, the UK and Japan were my highlights. More holidays than work so I got lucky. Playing music for people I would never ever dare to call ‘work’ anyways. Besides I set up my new studio above Renate club here in Berlin. Maybe this was a bit of work then? Building absorbers, renovating and stuff to make the room sound good, you know. So I’m looking forward to next winter season where I should be spending a lot time inside by then. Wait, no heating installed yet. Damn.

The mix was recorded at my Neukölln apartment. I was using the Standard setup: My beloved 10 year old Rane Empath Rotary Mixer, a bunch of CDJs as well as the classic Technics 1210. Another amp from the 80s and one day I got some older Canton speakers. Music all went into the tascam recorder. So that is that.

The idea of a dj mix, that is still a tough one. After thinking about it for months (or seconds for that matter) I just told myself ‘it’s basically one hour of dance music’ … right? So I went through my digital and analog shelves and went for a selection of music I like to play and (rarely but it happens) dance to these days. A lot of upcoming stuff I made myself plus some soon-to-be-released music and some arpy trance classic back from 1993 as a bonus. So yeah a bit of everything, including sloppy mixes. I tried hard not to get you bored. Maybe we should call this mix ‘The Idea Of A Trance Part 7’?”

Up next…

“What comes after travelling? Right on, travelling. After some more vacational days I’ll have the honour to play some shows around including Amsterdam and finally Robert Johnson, which is my definition of a club ever since. And god. I love to DJ. The motivation gets better each and every year. No kidding. On the producer side of things I have 2 more EPs coming your way early fall. Both on my own labels ‘Frank Music’ and ‘Fine’. One of them is called “Giovanni Frizzante” and it does what it says on the tin. Italo time. Before you ask – yeah you will actually hear it in the mix. Also a bit proud that Mr. Prins Thomas provided another Diskomiks for us.”
