This week we welcome Dublin-based DJ Deece. He has been hailed on the emerald isle, having played weekly for the past 7 years. Podcast number 80 consists of nothing but feel good vibes and is definitely one for the summer! As usual, we caught up with him to see what’s been happening…

“I’ve been as busy as I’ve ever been. Every year I keep thinking to myself that things are gonna slow down, but I keep getting busier. It’s the best complaint to have I suppose! I’ve just done my first Boiler Room, at AVA in Belfast, so that was pretty amazing. Other than that, I’ve just been doing some festival bits. Got to play straight after Villalobos at Life Festival a few weeks ago, which was a little bit nuts, but these are the things I work hard to be able to do! I’ve also been trying hard to work on trying to make my own music. I’ve been sharing a studio space in Dublin with Krystal Klear, so that’s helped me a lot. I’ll get there!

I recorded the mix using 2 x Technics 1210, 2 x Pioneer CDJ2000-nexus, and a Allen & Heath Xone: 43 mixer. I also used a little Boss RV-6 reverb pedal. It was recorded in the aforementioned studio I share with Krystal Klear in Dublin City.

When I make a mix, I try to find that line between giving people something they can listen to at home/in their car/on the bus etc and also showing off what kind of music I’m playing in the club at the moment. I feel like I’ve captured that fairly well with this mix. I originally had a totally different trackless done out, but it was quite similar to the set I played at Boiler Room, so I changed it up as this kinda thing gives me a chance to show people a different side to my DJing.”

“This weekend I’ve got a 5 hour set in one of my favourite clubs in Ireland, Pygmalion. As for the rest of the summer – I’ll be making my London debut at Brixton Rooftop with Theo Kottis on July 15th, and I’ve got a few more exciting festival bits that I can’t quite speak about just yet. I’ve also just confirmed my biggest ever show for NYE, so keep your eyes peeled for that announcement later in the year!”

Podcast number 79 comes via Sweden in the form of an hours worth of the deeper shades of house music from Art Alfie who also co-runs the excellent Karvolak Recordings. Perfect for the current sunshine. Get it on loud! As usual, we got in touch to find out what he’s been up to…

“I’ve been a lot in the studio making new music, finishing old projects and planning the autumn releases for me. I’ve also dj’d quite a bit. So pretty much same old same old!

I recorded it outside of opening hours in a bar in Stockholm that I frequent. They have a standard setup with decks, cdjs and a pioneer mixer. 

I would say the mix a have a “summer evening vibe”. We had few nice days here, I guess that inspired me. I also wanted it to be hard to Shazam. So a lot of unreleased stuff from myself and friends and a few promos. And of course, I wanted it to be representative of my sound.”

“Just keep on keeping on with making tracks and DJ’ing around the world. I’m also starting a new label this fall. I want it to be platform for myself and some friends. I wanna keep it tighter than with Karlovak, this new label is going to host releases from a small circle of people. I have an EP on Howl out on 09th June, and just released a solo EP on Karlovak. You can buy both in all good record stores!”

This week we welcome back Anil Aras, Dutch groover and one of the founders of Utrecht label SlapFunk Records. We included his belter ‘Dance MF’ in our Essential Mix a few years back. Since then Anil has been producing, curating and playing shows worldwide, and we can’t wait to catch him at By the Creek in July. As usual we spoke to the man himself to find out what’s been happening:

“Been touring through Europe and celebrating 5 years of SlapFunk Records with the crew, and spreading love all over the place.

I used turntables to record records and chopped it up to make edits. Gave most of the tracks a little twist and put the mix together in my hometown Utrecht.

Some classics, edits, unreleased music that reflects who I am and the way I feel. An hour of deep, groove and sex from the likes of me.”

“Preparing for my first live-set together with my homey Locklead. Excited for this new project and looking forward to a new way of performing together with other musicians on stage, and taking the show to another level.”

OK Jones, original Trouble Vision resident and part of the furniture at Corsica Studios mixes things up for our podcast series with a sweet selection of disco 12″s and beyond. 1/3 of Love Glove with Larj Hans and Rolfie and all round party starter. As always we caught up with him to see with whats going on.

“Took a trip to Hampton Court Palace a couple of weeks back. Highly recommend. As well as that, keeping things in check on the monthly Love Glove show on Balamii Radio and trying to stay on top of Love Glove fixtures. Had a cracking Trouble Vision get together last Friday as well. Shouts to all the TV family.

Mix was recorded in my lounge on a Trouble Vision recovery session. All vinyl, two turntables and a Superstereo Rotary mixer. Lots of very old records in their so please excuse the crackles and bumps.

I wanted to recreate the vibe of Larry Lavan’s infamous Dallas (who shot JR special) rap party set from 1980. Its also a bit of a shuffle through whats sitting in my bag currently.”

“On the road with the Love Glove boys…Well the East London line at least. We’re hosting a day party this Saturday (20th May) as part of the Peckham Rye Music festival with special guests Velvet Seasons & The Hearts of Gold + Yam Records. Playing Meat at Dalston Superstore on the 27th May and Gala Festival on the 28th May. Then i’m in the market for a weeks package holiday.”

We continue to welcome new artists into the fold with a 12” from fresh signees Tim Sweeney and Lauer operating under T&P. Number 10 in our release catalogue comes as a single titled ‘Hail Falls’.

Having introduced their collaboration through a self released record on Sweeney’s own Beats In Space back in 2016 – T&P continue to develop this fruitful relationship and roll out more Disco-tinged Acid.
