We are over the moon to have our second Japanese selector of the year to contribute to our Feel My Bicep podcast series. This time its from Gonno who’s brilliant album last year on Endless Flight and killer EP on our favourite Ibiza label International Feel really caught our attention. Make sure you check out the beautiful “A Life With Clarinet” which Nick Hoppner finished off his FMB podcast with last year.  As usual we asked Gonno a few questions about the mix and what he’s been up to.

“DJing and making music as always, have been to Taipei last month to play at Korner club for the first time and it was awesome.

The mix has been recorded at Circus Tokyo last weekend, using 2 turntables and 2 CDJs. It was recorded from around 2 to 3am I think.

At the moment I only have one turntable with a nice phono-amplifier in my flat so I would rather do live-recording at the club than doing it in studio. Of course I didn’t select any track list in advance then, I picked it in response to the crowd. I do like the way that I can’t get away with any tricks for live audiences. I hope you will enjoy the vibe.”

Up next..

“Not confirmed yet but I might come back to Europe in the middle of this year.  My next release from Technique Tokyo as a new compilation – which I also added to this Feel My Bicep Mix – will be out in April I think.  Meanwhile, I was stuck in Nick Hoppner’s studio when I was in Berlin last year and we made some tracks together, so hopefully they will come out this year. And of course now I’m making loads of new stuff for next releases, please stay tuned!”

FMB MIXTAPE 37 | CHRIS MASSEY

Chris Massey sent us a mix some time ago and we have been excited to schedule it into our podcast series. His affiliation with Electric Elephant  (catch us back there this year) in Tisno – Croatia, along with solid releases and remixes has made him one of the finest residents in the land. We caught up with him below:

“Had a bit of a busy run up to Christmas with booking/managing/promoting/making cups of tea for our annual Electric Chair End Of Year Riot which this year was “20 Years Of Electric Chair” with DJ friends & Chair legends old & new!

I also played some wicked DJ gigs in the last half of 2015…the launch of Twisted Geisha at Distrikt in Leeds & Re:late in Stoke being 2 of the stand out parties, oh and a jaunt to Dublin to play at Ukiyo which was really top!

The studio has become my 2nd home too and have been grafting away on productions & remixes which will be dropping soon…one EP will be on my own record label “Sprechen” (which I launched in September) and features a collaboration track with Emperor Machine and a 2nd EP i’m currently working on for Paper Recordings a little later in the year!

The mix was recorded in my home studio on a pair of pretty tired CDJ 1000’s (definitely time to jump to fully digital I think!) & an Allen & heath Xone 62 mixer which definitely needs a service….

I wanted the mix to be a reflection on what I like to play when doing a gig…having musical freedom, jumping genres and taking in all kinds of style whilst fully concentrating on the dance floor vibe (that part I had to do in my head whilst recording!). It starts off about 107bpm & ends in the realms of 125ish….house, disco, “jolly” techno, afro, cosmic type vibes are all present here!

The EP with the Emperor Machine track drops early February then its just more studio work to get a batch of tracks finished & polished off….i’ve recently joined the Electronic Soul roster too which i’m quite excited about starting a working relationship with! Oh and i’ve also got a gig coming up in Norway ahead of the Northern Disco Lights film I have worked on which is getting released later in the year….have a look here.”

FMB MIXTAPE 36 | THE BACKWOODS

The Backwoods is one of many projects from Japanese producer Kento Sasaki. Having affiliations to ESP Institute and remixing blog favourites Lauer and past podcast contributor Man Power we were excited to lock him down for a mix. Make sure to also check his Force Of Nature project of which he makes up one half of alongside another blog favourite KZA.

As always we sent a few questions his way to see what he’s been up to:

“I travelled around the world a lot last year. I want make music more this year. The mix was recorded drinking Oolong-Hi at home :)”

FMB MIXTAPE 35 | TIGHT PANTS

Next up we have Tight Pants up on the mixtape series. His “Scream time action EP” from last year was one of our favourites. Crunchy house mixed up with melancholic marimbas, whats not to like. We used the A side as first track in our White Light ambient mix. As ever we caught up with Tight Pants to have a chat about whats next on the horizon and what he’s been up to:

“I come home to my house from a beach looks forward to coming again for your love. 

It’s a lot of fun at my house me my condesa and a room full of hitting things.

Part is a 3 telling a story of the night, start with no one in the club the first cheers of the bar staff for a good night, the main act comes with the force, and acid brings the sunrise to my bed.

Going to get some food with my friend Elena all this work makes me hungry.”

FMB MIXTAPE 34 | KITT PROUDFOOT

Next up on the mixtape we got Dj extraordinaire, comedian, and all round LAD… Mr Kitt Proudfoot. We first met Kitt a few years back now, at WeLove Sundays at Space where he was a regular in El Salon and Premier Etage and have been friends ever since. We caught up with him ahead of the mix to see whats on the horizon and what he has been up  to recently:

“It’s been a busy year in the studio working on my Damercy project. Sound wise it’s all Balearic guitars & reverb with a House’y bottom end of 909 drums & Juno bass.

The mix was recorded live in two takes.  I have to say thank you to Dave & Jess from Meattransmission for letting me use the studio on Hoxton Square.
I really just wanted to bang it out. Speed things up a little. I play it slow too often so wanted to switch that around. I think I was trying to get something out of my system. It is a mixture of newer old stuff and older new stuff which gives you a good idea of what I like to play when faced with a real-deal nightclub dancefloor. There are micro-mistakes galore which is just the way I like it. “

“I want to turn Damercy into a live show. Which is something I have never done before. Apart from that tons of writing, first steps into film making & weekly DJ residencies around London. “
